Orientation
Parker (Richard Gere) found Hachi on the way home after working. He decides to take it home but his wife, Cate (Joan Allen), refuses his idea of looking after the poor dog. After a long way of finding Hachi’s adopter, Parker finally finds nothing. Cate finally agrees to look after the dog after she sees how both take care of each other well.
Every day Hachi sees his master off and wait for his coming at a station. More people now know the dog. One day, as usual it is waiting for his master’s coming but he never appears. Parker, in fact, dies at his place of working without Hachi’s knowing about that.
There comes a day when Hachi finally has to move with Parker’s daughter, Andy (Sarah Roemer), to a new place. Hachi is always trying to run away to the station and wait for Parker’s coming. It happens all the time. Andy finally let it go. Relying his life on people’s pity at the station, Hachi’s nine-years waiting is eventually paid by its death at the place where it always wait for his master’s coming.
Evaluation
I recommend this film to watch because this film is worth watching. We can learn of how dog is really men’s best friend, of how friendship is not merely bounded among human only. This film is based on true story taken place at Tokyo in 1923, where now you can still Hachi’s memorial statue at Shibuya station as a commemoration of this dog’s faith, devotion, and undying love.
